Record-setting Donation to Help Warm Detroiters Hands and Hearts This Winter

Chrysler Group Employees Donate 35,000 Pairs of Mittens, Gloves to “Mittens for Detroit”
November 13, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -  In less than four weeks, Chrysler Group LLC employees collected a record 35,000 pairs of new, unused gloves and mittens, giving a huge hand of support to Mittens for Detroit (MFD), a charity that’s known for “warming hearts, two hands at a time.”

“As a Dodge Challenger fan, I was excited to work with the Chrysler family on this year’s Mittens for Detroit campaign," said Erin Cummings, actress and founder of Mittens for Detroit. "The generosity of the Chrysler employees has surpassed all hopes and expectations that we had going into this and I am honored and humbled that Mittens for Detroit can be a conduit of so much good. After such an outpouring of support, I can promise that I’ll only be driving Chrysler cars from now on!”

Now in its fifth year, MFD has collected and purchased more than 55,000 new pairs of mittens and gloves, distributing them to 13 Detroit-based partner agencies, including Alternative for Girls, The Children’s Center of Wayne County, COTS, Covenant House of Michigan and the Michigan Veterans Foundation. Each year, several special projects are chosen – this year they include Detroit Public Schools Homeless Program, Capuchin Soup Kitchen and Operation Get Down. MFD’s collection season runs through Jan. 31, 2015.

“It’s evident that this challenge resonated with employees,” Brian Harlow, Chrysler Group Head of NAFTA Manufacturing and United Way Co-Chair, said.

Chrysler Group’s United Way steering committee adopted Mittens for Detroit in an effort to kick-start its United Way campaign. Employees overwhelmingly responded to the steering committee’s challenge to collect 18,000 pairs of gloves and mittens, doubling MFD's 2013 campaign total of 17,500.

“Employees are passionate about achieving and delivering what we promise, both on the job and in the community. For this, I personally thank each of you, 35,000 times,” Harlow added.
