Chrysler Canada Reports Best Calendar-Year-to-Date Retail Sales Since 2002

  • Thirty consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth 
  • Best calendar-year-to-date retail sales since 2002 
  • All time sales record set for Ram truck, the #2 selling vehicle in Canada 
  • May sales records set for Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Journey, Chrysler Town & Country, Chrysler 200 and Fiat 500 
  • Fuel-efficient Fiat 500 sales climb 19 per cent 
  • Passenger car sales soar to 5,659 sales, the highest in the last 47 months

May 31, 2012 , Windsor, Ontario - Chrysler Canada today announced the company’s 30th consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth. May sales were 26,218 compared to 24,406 in May 2011, representing a 7 per cent increase.

“There have only been three months in the last 10 years that have hit the 26,000 sales mark and I’m thrilled to count May 2012 among them” said Dave Buckingham, Chief Operating Officer of Chrysler Canada. “We have always been strong on the truck side of our business with Ram trucks and Dodge Grand Caravan being among the Top 5 best-selling vehicles in the country… but to see such strong consistent sales results from our fuel-efficient cars demonstrates the sustainability of our success.”

Sales Highlights
The Chrysler brand did very well in May, led by strong sales of the Chrysler 200 sedan and convertible, which were up 97 per cent with 2,057 units sold compared to May of 2011 with 1,044 units sold. The made-in-Canada Chrysler 300 also had a great month, more than tripling its 2011 sales with 1,196 units sold in May of this year. Chrysler Town & Country minivan sales were also on the rise setting a new May sales record, up 62 per cent for the month with 883 units sold, compared to 546 in the same period, one year ago.

Sales of the fuel-efficient Fiat 500 were up 19 per cent compared to May of 2011 with 810 units sold, representing a May record. Canada’s #1 selling and most affordable crossover, the Dodge Journey, also set a May record with 3,002 sales in 2012, compared to the same period last year, marking an increase of 7 per cent.

Ram truck sales continue to break records, this time setting an all-time record with 6,596 sales reported in May of 2012, compared to 5,428 in May of 2011. Calendar-year-to-date Ram truck sales are 20 per cent ahead of 2011’s record pace.

The iconic Jeep® Wrangler set a May record with 2,091 sales, up 9 per cent from the same month, one year ago. Jeep Wrangler sales for the year are eclipsing the record pace set in 2011 by 28 per cent.
